likesthecoat: (love can be perfect)

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures
And instructions for dancing but

I...
I love it when you read to me and
You...
You can read me anything

The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb but

I...
I love it when you sing to me and
You...
You can sing me anything

The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we're all too young to know but

I...
I love it when you give me things and
You...
You ought to give me wedding rings
I...
I love it when you give me things and
You...
You ought to give me wedding rings

This makes me think of you.

(Anybody else who wants it can have it too. I'm too happy to be selfish.)
likesthecoat: (coffee = happiness)
It's not my birthday for another hour, but I've already got the best present I could hope for.

In that spirit: Somebody Loved, the Weepies.

I had some different plans for today, but as it is, this is my favorite song about Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day by Steven Earle

likesthecoat: (we read to know we're not alone)
I was looking for a prayer but couldn't find one that suited. So have a song instead. Comfort by Matt Wertz.

[Filtered to Lorne]

And in the midst of all this, your package arrived today.

Your drawing has gone into the silver frame beside my bed along with my favorite picture of you.

I love you.

Have you talked to Sheppard today?

[ooc: Comments get adulty. And a little weird. These two are dorkus majorkus, clearly.]

The latest quiz war has put me in mind of this song. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of it, but thanks to the internets it's easy to find the lyrics.

I'll upload when I'm home.

Except I probably won't do this every day.

Anyway, I heard this song today and it reminded me of a few people around TIC, and so I share: First We Take Manhattan by Leonard Cohen.

Enjoy.

Edit: and since I missed this one the first time around and Jack had it:

Firstly, as I didn't get to it over the weekend, congratulations Matt and Near! I hope the wedding was devoid of monkeys.

1. Do you have an iPod or similar device? Tell us about it.
I have a Creative ZEN mp3 player. It's black 30 mg, good battery life, FM radio, and I could watch videos on it if I ever bothered to upload them. But I've never seen the point of portable video players with such a small screen: you miss all the nuance if you're watching a film, and if it's a music video you might as well just have the song in audio-only.

2. If the answer to question #1 is no, what do you use to listen to music?
If I'm not using the mp3 player . . . Usually I listen to the tracks on my laptop. The CDs themselves I have in storage containers: I don't listen to them often once I've ripped them. (And yes, they are insanely organzied: alphabetical order by artist and then chronologically by album release date. I also organize my ties by color. Order is merely a way of maintaining control.)

3. How many songs do you have on your mp3 player?
7,472.

4. What situations make you want to bring your mp3 player with you?
Mostly when I exercise, and I usually bring it to work with me though I rarely use it there. I have to be available to the others and that means no headphones.

That boy took my love away
Oh, he'll regret it some day
But this boy wants you back again

That boy isn't good for you
Though he may want you too
This boy wants you back again

Oh, and this boy would be happy
Just to love you, but oh, my, oh
That boy won't be happy
till he's seen you cry

This boy wouldn't mind the pain
Would always feel the same
If this boy gets you back again

This boy, this boy...

Don't judge me too harshly.

This had slipped my mind until Sam reminded me.

Make a mini-playlist for Spring. Five songs about Spring, that sound like Spring to you, make you think of Spring, or are good to listen to in Spring.

Night and Fog, Mercury Rev
Brand New Colony, the Postal Service
Secret Garden, Bruce Springsteen
All the Trees of the Fields Will Clap Their Hands, Sufjan Stevens
Pink Moon, Nick Drake.
