"A few months ago," Ianto says slowly, "we were investigating some disappearances in the country, and Toshiko--one of the girls I work with--and I were, er, taken. And it was my first field assignment and everything went wrong . . . and I lost it a bit. I couldn't see how our being in danger was worth what we'd learn, and she said it was, that it was our duty to protect people.
