I know, it is odd, isn't it? I've read the internet only gives an illusion of intimacy but I don't know--it feel pretty real to me.

I suppose a lot of the argument goes to the fact that there is no 'face-to-face' contact... But, from my own experience anyway, if I talk to someone long enough, I can get a 'feel' for what they're like - as if they're in the room with me.
I'm sorry to be the one to have to break it to you, but alas, it's very true. I just don't think you should be sheltered from this sort of news; at least this way, you can be prepared. Me, on the other hand...well, I'm practically saintly. ~_^

I agree: someone would have to be a very, very skillful liar to keep up a facade for any length of time, when communication gets intense. A well-trained enough con man can get away with any manner of things, face-to-face.
