It worries me a bit when things are quiet at work, but I'm going to just count my blessings for it and catch up on paperwork.

The blanket is going right on my bed when I get home tonight, and I love the pictures. (I will admit to tucking that one of you in the astronaut's uniform into my breast pocket.)

Okay, I feel more than a little silly about this whole umbrella thing all of a sudden, but bear with me. It's convoluted, but I hope it will make sense at the end.

A long time ago, I saw this play. I think it was called The Curious Savage. Anyhow, it was about this woman who was living in an insane asylum in the 40s (or close to the 40s, I'm not really sure about that). Her name was Mrs. Savage, and her kids were trying to get her declared insane so they could get her money, or something like that. It's not really important.

So one of the other patients is in love with another patient. Let's call them Jake and Mary, since I don't remember their names, and this is going to be confusing enough without resorting to pronouns. So Mary is in love with Jake, who thinks the nurse is his dead wife. And Mary goes to Mrs. Savage one day all upset because Jake doesn't love her. And Mrs. Savage tells Mary that Jake does too. And Mary says, "Then why doesn't he ever say so?"

And Mrs. Savage tells Mary how she and her husband used to have little things they would say to each other that meant "I love you" without actually being those words. She has a whole long list of them, but the only one I can remember is, "Take an umbrella. It looks like rain."

And I hear it rains a lot in Wales. So...here's your umbrella.

It never lasts--I'm just going to enjoy it while it does.

Well, I hope you get that chance once your paperworks out of the way.

I usually try to stay optimistic, but I know through experiance how hard that can be.
