Once Hakkai is settled in Owen's flat, Ianto suggests to Lorne they go for a walk to the Millennium Centre; and so they head out into the brisk day.

Ianto takes Lorne's hand and holds it loosely.

Ianto hangs onto Lorne's wrists and leans their foreheads together again. "Say you'll never die," he says quietly. "I don't care if you mean it. I just need to hear it."

"Christ, Ianto, I..." He closes his eyes for a moment, and when he opens them, they're shining. "I'll never die," he whispers, and the words tear at his heart.

Ianto kisses him hard, and wraps his arms around him and buries his face in his shoulder. "All my friends died," he mutters into Lorne's neck. "You understand how that feels? All of them. Lisa was all I had left. People I used to see plays with and go pub crawling with and dance with and see every day . . . all gone.

"I just need to hear it sometimes. Doesn't matter if it's true. Of course it's not true. But it doesn't matter."

Lorne has nothing to say to this. Any words he can come up with fall so short of helping. So he just clings to Ianto, wraps his arms around him and holds him as tight as he can.

After a few minutes Ianto pulls away again. He looks embarrassed. "So. One of my deeper, darker secrets. Still love me?"

Lorne holds Ianto's face in his hands and kisses him softly. "Of course I do. We both have deep, dark secrets, Ianto, but I'll always love you."

Ianto kisses him briefly and exhales. "I love you too, sweetheart."

"That's all I need to know, babe," Lorne says, brushing his thumb over Ianto's cheekbone.

"Now," he takes Ianto's hand, "why don't you show me around the Bay?"

Ianto smiles and takes Lorne's other hand too, and pulls him along the wharf. "To your left, there's water," he begins.
