Second jam-making experiment today.

More apricot: one plain batch, one with a bit of cinnamon in. I had some of that, of course--I had to verify it's edible. (It was.)

It's been a quiet day. I can't say as I mind.

I worried, before I met her, that she wouldn't. I wasn't sure how much she knew about us, for one thing, or how she'd feel about her son's lover being a man.

That's understandable, given my situation. Both my parents were actually always open-minded about that sort of thing. My mom was better at expressing it than my dad, but I always knew he'd be okay with it.

Exactly. My parents are okay with it for me because they've had ten years to get used to the idea--my father, particularly, took a while to come round.

But she didn't detest me on sight, so I counted that as a win.

Dads are protective in a different way than mums, I expect. More of a "What are you doing to my child" while mums tend to think "Are you making my child happy".
