Martha sent me a journal the other day with some photographs of her own, and I've put your pictures in there as well for the time being. Next time you send me a picture of you, I hope you're more than a background figure. (Sheppard looks exactly how I imagined, right down to the perma-bedhead.)

I'm sorry I was an arse yesterday. I do get a little jealous sometimes--or more realistically, envious, because they get to spend time with you and I don't. And all this happening here--it's shaping up to be much more than it initially appeared, and we're all under some stress. That's no excuse, of course.

When things are back to normal you and I can have a good long talk, I hope.

I felt like a jerk when I signed off yesterday. There was work that needed doing but I felt like I just left you hanging, and I couldn't be . . . I don't know. Sometimes I just don't know what to say about anything.

We're still safe. I'm quite safe. Doing research, making phone calls. And I'm not saying that so you don't worry.

Hey, it's okay. You shouldn't ever feel like you need to apologize for doing your job. It gets crazy, and you have to deal with it. I understand.

And we can have that conversation when you get the chance. Don't worry about it.

I do worry. I've never done a relationship online--it's so different. I can't just pop round to see you when work is done; I can't take you out; I can't do anything but talk to you, and when I run out of things to say I worry that you think I'm bored.

I haven't either, so we're both on the same page there. I know that you have other things you have to do. You can't just spend all your time talking to me online. You've got work and friends and a life all outside of this.

I don't think that you're bored when you run out of things to say. Though I do wish we could do something together in those times when we have nothing to say. I mean, if we could talk on the phone, we could just be on the phone with each other, even if we didn't say anything.

There's a sort of connection over the phone at least. You know the other person is there, and you're together even if you're not really. I'm not explaining myself very well, and I'm starting to sound like a bad romance novel.

That's true: hearing someone's voice is quite a connection.

I don't know that I would call it relaxing necessarily...although I do tend to be fairly relaxed when it's over.
