...we aren't just protecting Earth out here. I mean, that's our primary purpose, and that's what the IOA is concerned with, but...we've taken a stance pretty strongly against protecting Earth while neglecting the rest of the humans out here.
I'm glad you think so. I guess I just get a little nervous about Earth-based organizations protecting the planet. They have a tendency to think that Earth is the most important planet in the universe and everyone else can just fend for themselves.
When Torchwood was founded--back by Queen Victoria, I should add--no one knew there was anything else out there. Perhaps we are a bit geocentric but this is home.
Torchwood 1 was a lot more mercenary than we are now.
I understand why people want to protect Earth. It's home. I want to protect it too. But...well, there are people on Earth who are willing to steal from other planets, peaceful planets, and put them at risk in order to give Earth the advantage.
Are we arguing about this? Because I don't have an argument with this. I've never been to another planet but I've spoken to many creatures from other planets and most of them are a lot like us, just squishier.
So protecting other worlds is not going to be a problem for me.
Sorry. I didn't mean to argue. I just...I've met a lot of really intelligent people who would definitely argue with me on that. That's one big reason why I don't really like the IOA so very much, in fact. I didn't expect you to disagree.
Look. We restrain the Weevils because they're dangerous. They'll kill you as soon as look at you. And we've had to deal with creatures who've come here, sometimes with lethal force because they were killing people. But that's here. Most of the time when the earth gets buzzed we tell them to stop scaring the locals and please come back in a hundred years or so.

Okay.
I haven't talked to Jack about this yet.
no subject
Okay. Are you going to do that soon, or do you want to wait?
no subject
I don't know.
I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about his reaction.
no subject
That's understandable. Will you have to take that pill, do you think? Retcon?
no subject
If I present it to him as research into possible threats to Earth, probably not.
I mean, we're doing the same thing, just from different perspectives.
no subject
That's an interesting way of looking at it.
I guess we are, aren't we?
no subject
Despite everything, at its heart Torchwood is here to defend the Earth. We've got distracted sometimes but that's the fundamental principle.
I think we are. Just you're out there and we're down here.
...and there are so few of us. There's that, too.
no subject
...we aren't just protecting Earth out here. I mean, that's our primary purpose, and that's what the IOA is concerned with, but...we've taken a stance pretty strongly against protecting Earth while neglecting the rest of the humans out here.
no subject
That's a good stance to take.
We don't have quite the budget for that, though.

All right.
That's my perspective. That's what we do here.
no subject
I'm completely in favor of that kind of protection. We do the same out here.
no subject
Okay.
So, back to the original point, I have not told Jack yet, I don't know how I'm going to tell him and I don't know when.
no subject
Okay.
no subject
That came out more terse than I intended. I'm sorry.
no subject
It's all right. I just don't know what I'm supposed to say to that. It's up to you when you tell him.
no subject
Yeah. I suppose so.
no subject
You have to tell him sometime, babe.
no subject
I know.
I'd rather it be by message on his mobile while I'm standing in the airport in Colorado. But that's cowardly.
no subject
Yeah, it is. And you're not a coward.
And...he deserves better than that.
no subject
I know.
I just don't want to see his face when I do.
