Today I bought wedding magazines.

This was a mistake.

You want to know why this was a mistake? Well, I'm going to tell you. BECAUSE THE WEDDING INDUSTRY IS COMPLETELY BRIDE-ORIENTED AND IS NOT HELPING ME AT ALL.

I suppose this is good in its way, because it gives us license to invent our own traditions and make our own decisions, but on the other hand . . . I would really like to do this right.

At this rate you lot will be lucky if you get a cup of water and a slice of cake at the reception, I hope you realize that.

And you're only getting cake because Lorne wants cake.

Thanks. I may take you up on that: I can't even find a wedding planner I like.

Oh dear... so no pressure at all then to impress, ne?.. ^_^;

**grins**

No pressure at all! Only that I'm completely at sea here and professionals aren't really helping that much.

I think they might be a tad out of their element given that the industry sounds like it's a bit behind the times...

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
They might, though the ones that I've talked to have been really okay with us being two blokes. It's just I say "simple" and they say, "candles, lights, flowers, chiffon, ribbons" and on and on.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
**brow arch** That sounds a bit elaborate for 'simple'...

I guess the question to ask is, when you think about it, what do you see? Do you have a vision of what you want?

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
When I think about it, I . . . just want to be married. I don't know about the details. That's what's throwing me: there are so many things that don't seem necessary but are probably part of the whole picture.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
But that's the thing. At least from my perspective, anyway, a lot of things don't seem necessary. I've seen some of the programming they have on television with this enormous, elaborate affairs, and it gets so big that the actual point of the day is lost - that of the bond between the two people joining...

The unfortunate thing is that the ceremony is more for the people there than for the couple. As you say, you just want to be married.

I've seen people back home do their ceremonies outside in a garden or at a gazebo at dusk, everything lined with luminaries...it's very pretty, very simple, elegant...

Martha suggested putting fairy lights in the trees: I like that very much.

Sometimes I think we should just do a casual party sort of thing, but I want to celebrate, too. *bangs head repeatedly* I don't know. It's not like I've daydreamed about this day since I was tiny.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
That is a nice idea.

**grins** You can celebrate and be casual, too...

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
True, true . . . but even so there are plans to make. When I get to thinking about it I know I want to dance with Lorne, for instance, and I know we're going to have cake, but exactly what music? What kind of cake?

*sighs*

These details are going to bury me.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...

Cake I can maybe suggest... I know that the two of you are both quite fond of apricot. A very light lemon cake with an apricot jam filling could work...

As for music - there has to be some song that's symbolic to the two of you. For the remainder of the evening, a good DJ should be able to listen to what you like and provide a good mix of songs for you and your guests to enjoy...

**soft smile** You'll manage, Ianto. I think it's all just very overwhelming right now, yes? Baby steps. At least you're thinking, right? Take a day or two and just think - don't worry right now if it will all come together or not - you can modify and make changes once you have ideas in your head.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
There are a great many songs that have meaning for us. That's part of the trouble, trying to pick just one.

I'm always thinking about it since we decided. I just don't talk about it much because I don't want to annoy everyone. Lorne gets it every day.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
**grins** Well, I'm sure that not all of them are really good for dancing to, ne?

**smiles** Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but I honestly don't mind listening if you want to talk about it...

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on what sort of dancing you want to do, I suppose.

I may post about it more, then.

[identity profile] chigong-master.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
True.

So in that case, why choose one song? A variety of music for a variety of dancing.

**grins** Do so. It might make you feel less overwhelmed, too.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I want a lot of dancing. We'll need a lot of songs.

I think I will, particularly since when I do everyone has such good ideas for us to consider. You lot are doing a lot of my planning for me.

**grins** Who needs a professional when you've got us? ~_^
