Today I bought wedding magazines.
This was a mistake.
You want to know why this was a mistake? Well, I'm going to tell you. BECAUSE THE WEDDING INDUSTRY IS COMPLETELY BRIDE-ORIENTED AND IS NOT HELPING ME AT ALL.
I suppose this is good in its way, because it gives us license to invent our own traditions and make our own decisions, but on the other hand . . . I would really like to do this right.
At this rate you lot will be lucky if you get a cup of water and a slice of cake at the reception, I hope you realize that.
And you're only getting cake because Lorne wants cake.

We have to do the civil partnership registration, so I'm not thinking about that much. That part will be easy.
Afterwards we've asked Sanzo to do a blessing ceremony kind of thing, and he's looking into having it done at the temple he works at. So that's part two.
And then we want to do a reception at our house, providing we have a house by then.
Lorne wants to wear his grandfather's kilt so we're playing off that, but I don't know if I want to wear a tuxedo or morning suit, I'm not sure what color, we don't know how we want to decorate the cake, we have decided to use the colors from the kilt in the decorations but I don't know what decorations . . . and the magazines are just chock full of all these knicknacks and things. ARGH. Did I mention ARGH?

Okay well thats part down.
Do you want to have everyone at the temple for the blessing and then migrate to your house? Or would you like a small portion at the blessing and most people at the house waiting?
Flowers are good for decorations. I mean, ice sculptures and fountains and statues are used in a lot of weddings but that sort of thing is up to you. What time were you thinking of having the reception? Morning? Mid-day? Dusk? Evening?
Different decorations work well with different times (obviously).
I think its a good idea to go with the colours from the kilt. And well, I think you'd be dashing in a tux love, but that is just me.
What colours are Lorne's kilt?
And please tell me you will have two groomsmen on top of the cake.

Sure, but which flowers? Lorne wants masculine: no pink. and I don't think I want many flowers: it feels like not-us.
I don't know what time it will all be. I suppose that depends on when we get in for the registration.
It's a green and blue plaid.
CAKE. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WANT FOR CAKE.

I agree with you there, too many rose type flowers are not really you. Although Lorne, I take offense that you call pink flowers girly. Traditionally pink was a masculine colour that was associated with men going into battle. So there.
But in any case, I think orchids would be nice and are... different enough that they don't seem girly and can sort of be you-esque.
I'd have to see when they bloom compared to your wedding, but I had a thought of decorating with apricot tree's... maybe putting some fairy lights in them. I think that would be nice, but I'm not positive when apricots would be on the tree...

But I like the notion of putting fairy lights in the trees. If we do an evening reception, no matter what time the rest of it is, the fairy lights will be very effective.

Which reminds me, are you planning on having the reception out or inside?
Also, I found a place that talks about "grooms cakes" which are different from regular wedding cakes. I know, sorry. These are done usually to represent the interests of the groom(s).
So there is that option if you'd like a cake that looked like, say, a violin. Or something.
Now as far as cakes... I realise these may be a bit girly but, the industry runs to women.
I felt that was rather... non-descript but still lovely looking.
This is a grooms cake. It looks rly good... I'd like to have it just... because.
Those are sugar orchids (okay I really like that flower alright?) on a green cake. Obviously. I think it looks not too girly.
Okay, I just put this one in because I love it.

And outside. We want it outside.

I'm sorry. I love to plan and make Lists. Lists about Lists. So, this sort of planning is enjoyable for me.
I know its hardly so for you. *hugs*
Let me know what I can do to help okay love?
You may need a tent then... It is Wales. It may rain.
P.S. Blue orchids:

I just think it would be a lot easier for you if you focused less on the "OMG MY WEDDING" part and more on the "big party with lots of friends"; it seems easier to plan for the second than the first.
Also, how formal were you thinking on going? The whole "wedding reception" with the gauze and bows and ice sculptures or much more of the informal big happy party route?
no subject
Though maybe a big informal happy party is the way to go. Throw those magazines away and just do it like us.

I plan on having a moon bounce at mine.
I think you should just do it like you guys. Don't worry about what you think you're supposed to do for a wedding. Do what you want. Whatever that is. If you don't want flowers, don't have them.

Okay, I had an idea and I don't even know if this ccan be feasibly done and if it can if... it would be a good idea.
But looking up pictures of wedding cakes I saw a few that were made to look like castles... Would it make Lorne too home sick to have one done like Atlantis? And like I said, is it even feasible?
Or is that a rly bad idea?
no subject
I think that would be a very bad idea. Too many people will be there who don't know about Atlantis and this should not be their introduction.

I felt of those that didn't know, its not like they would automatically assume its a city in another galaxy.
But I get what you mean. It was just a passing thought.
no subject
My family don't know what I do for a living. I don't want them to even think about other galaxies.
no subject
*nods* You're right. It is a bit much for family members to think of loved ones doing such dangerous work on a daily basis.
*tight hugs*

I also don't want them to know about aliens.
no subject
Yeah. Apparently the idea to most people is... frightening. Honestly, not all aliens are bad.
no subject
Enough of them are to worry me.
