Because you worry :).

We've had an old colleague return unexpectedly, and it's causing some tension. However, her knowledge in this case may be invaluable, so we're doing our best to work together.

So that's what's up with me. I can't exactly say "all's well," but it certainly could be worse.

I'm perfectly content with turning over all duties of tending to Suzie to Gwen. I'm not certain I could look her in the eye, to be frank.

[ooc: mun is fleeing for chiropractor's and supper. will be back later.]

That bad, huh? Just don't get yourself eaten or anything.

Coffee I could tell you about.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . oh, remind me to tell you about that sometime.

Very true, unless it were a special, classified, top secret sort of coffee.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'm not sure I want to know...

If it were a special, classified, top secret sort of coffee that was special, classified and top secret because it was amazing, I think I might just toss that NDA out the window and tell you about it anyway.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's just say there's a reason I'm never eating veal again, and it has nothing to do with ethics.

*beams* You'd do that just for me? Aww.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely don't want to know. Though I think I might understand.

Only if it were coffee.

Actually, I wonder how much stock people really put in those NDAs. McKay's sister signed one, and then she told her husband. Maybe they figure that it's okay as long as it's in the family.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. No need for further detail, then.

Well, coffee is the only thing risking that much for . . .

I suppose it depends on what's at stake. We've got an NDA of our own but it's mostly informal, just an understanding to use our own judgment.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not the only thing...

I'd love to work somewhere where people trusted each other that much. I could do without all the red tape.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
*smiles* No, not the only thing.

Well. It's one part trust to five parts knowing the consequences.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
It probably also helps that there aren't quite so many of you.

It's easy for someone to understand the consequences of, say, blabbing all over the 10 o'clock news, but it's more difficult to make them understand the possible consequences of blabbing to their best friend over the game.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Also true. The London branch was much more strict in certain areas.

Very true. It makes me wonder if NDAs are any use at all. People need to talk about their lives with their loved ones.

Like, say, this.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I can see their usefulness in some areas. We had a reporter in at the base in Colorado several years ago to document the program, and he had to sign NDAs all over the place. For someone like him, it's not so difficult. Or for the people who serve on the advisory board. But when it's your life, day in and day out, and that's all there really is to your life, yeah, you definitely need to share it.

Trouble is, what you really need is to share it with someone who'll understand, and that's really difficult to find in someone who's not dealing with the same things.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, aye, I can see that happening. I've seen it, in fact. When you do something for a living that you can't talk about, who do you talk to?

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
You talk to the people you work with, and you suddenly find yourself friends with people you never thought you'd be friends with.

It's worse when you really want to tell someone you think might actually understand.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Or you don't talk to them, and find yourself isolated.

It was pointed out to me earlier to day that I've not been particularly forthcoming with my colleagues lately. But it's difficult to change the habit of a year, don't you think?

Yes, it is.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Which isn't healthy, at all.

Difficult, yes, but not impossible.

It's hard to talk to people you've kept yourself apart from. But sometimes it's worth the effort.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, I suppose not.

They know about Lisa but there's not much else I've confided in. And somehow I doubt that they'd want to hear about some of the things I do. It's not all research and filing.

You know more about me than almost anyone.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I have to admit that I haven't always taken my own advice on this matter.

I'm honored. And I'm pretty sure you know more about me than almost anyone.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm having those "I wish you were here" thoughts again.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have those thoughts a lot.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm having them more and more lately. I wake up and I miss you not being with me, I go through the day wondering what you'd say about the people I interact with or the things I'm doing, I go to bed happy I was able to be a dork with you online for a while.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know the feeling.

Some days I don't realize how much I'm thinking of you until I realize that I haven't been thinking of you. If that makes any sense.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* Oddly enough, it does.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. You really do know me better than anyone else.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
*blushes*

We're going through the same thing--that adds a lot to understanding.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose so, but that was still phrased awkwardly enough to have confused a lesser man.
