It worries me a bit when things are quiet at work, but I'm going to just count my blessings for it and catch up on paperwork.

[Filtered to Lorne]

Guess what was waiting for me when I got to the Hub this morning?

That would be your latest package. Dr. Jackson must had paid a fortune to get it here so quickly.

The blanket is going right on my bed when I get home tonight, and I love the pictures. (I will admit to tucking that one of you in the astronaut's uniform into my breast pocket.)

For what it's worth, you're not a dick. I've never thought that.

So, tell me about the umbrella.

[ooc: adult-contenty. la la la.]

I'd love that. It would be good to hear your voice. I suppose I could reciprocate as well.

I don't think you'd have any problems with the censors. They tend to care more about outgoing mail than incoming. (Yes, I did.)

Then I will do so.

All right, I'm going to say what's in my heart, then. And possibly translate it.

Possibly not.

(Good.)

You'll drive me crazy if you don't translate it, you know. I'll be forced to hunt down a linguist who speaks Welsh.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

Oh, I don't know. You might be able to tell from the tone of my voice.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

In that case, I probably don't want any of the linguists listening to it.

[Private to Lorne]

Not if I say what I'm planning on saying, oh no indeed.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

See, now you have to translate it for me. Otherwise that's just cruel.

[Private to Lorne]

*smiles* Maybe.

And here I thought you just wanted to hear Welsh. For reference.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

Well, I did. And then you started dropping hints and being all coy. And now my interest is more than piqued.

*eyebrow* And? What does it mean?

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

If I tell you now it'll give you nothing to look forward to in the next package.

Don't pout. It's a good thing.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

*sigh* Fine. I can wait.

*does not pout, does not pout*

Hm...I think I like it better in Welsh. :P

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

I don't know, there's something poetic about it. I am yours . . . liking you. And if I were talking about you in the third person, I am his, liking him.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

You know, you're right. I think I got distracted by having it broken up into its component parts. It's harder to parse that way.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

Language works better as a whole rather than in parts.

That sounded deep in my head, but it just looks nonsensical written down.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

Not at all. It's like "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Only less pretentious sounding.

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

Don't mistake the forest for the trees?

No, that doesn't make any sense, either.

[identity profile] rockscientist.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Ianto]

That's because it's "Can't see the forest for the trees." Which is like me trying to parse that sentence in pieces rather than all together.

Yours am mine to be loving.

O:-)

Welsh rendered into English requires transcendental reading, doesn't it? You have to sort of get the spirit of the words, rather than the words themselves.

But, uh, me too. I think. ;)

[identity profile] morethanteaboy.livejournal.com 2007-07-26 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Private to Lorne]

Or maybe I'm just playing with words. I do that sometimes. How much can I twist them up and you still understand me?

I work with McKay and Zelenka and Parrish and innumberable other eggheads. I'm pretty good at pulling meaning out of gibberish.
