Now that I've had a little time to process it all, a reconstruction:

  • Q swaps bodies among several members of TIC, including Jack and Lorne.
  • A ZPM, the main power source of Ancient technology, falls through the Rift into Cardiff.
  • Ba'al, a Go'auld (Ancient pseudo-god*), follows it through.
  • Ba'al tracks the ZPM to the Hub.
  • Ba'al leaves his current host body and attaches himself to Jack (who is, let's remember in Lorne's body at the time.)
  • In the process, Jack gets killed. Being Jack, he doesn't stay dead.
  • All the more reason for Ba'al to stay with Jack. Only . . .
  • Q swaps everybody back. So:
  • Ba'al is now in Lorne's body, with his ordinary mortality. Ba'al wants Jack's immortality back.
  • Ba'al leaves Lorne's body, trying to get back into Jack's
  • At which point we shoot it.

I think I got all of it.

*Babylonian? Seem to remember him in the Bible. Elisha or Elijah. Blood sacrifice?

So.

Someone has swapped the bodies of my boyfriend and my boss, who I used to sleep with.

Somebody kill me, please.
likesthecoat: (this is my beloved)
The time for meeting family has begun, so Lorne and I are heading to London for a visit to my brother Griffen. My nieces are already calling him Uncle Ianto's boy--now they get to meet in person. (How cute is it that he's worried about impressing two little girls? Very cute, I have to say.)

Introducing him to the whole family at the rehearsal dinner, while it would be efficient, would be cruel, don't you think?

My baby has beautiful hands, doesn't he?

I took Lorne up to the Orkney Islands for his birthday. (And so I'd get a little vacation: Lorne made me promise not to think about the wedding or the house while we were there. I managed, mostly.) We got back late last night. No TV for four days, and I haven't even looked at a newspaper until today.

And now there's a bloody great hole where Los Angeles used to be.

*sighs*

(I asked Jack this morning why he didn't call me back and he gave me the most innocent look ever and said, "I wanted to prove we can manage without you--and look! The world's still here!"

This time, Harkness. This time.)

Happy birthday to my sweetheart, my love, my better half, my darling.

I love you, Evan. I'm so glad you're in the world.

Jack and I had a talk last night, something I think we've been needing to say to each other for a long time. Nothing like facing the end of the world (again) to make you speak the truth, I suppose.

And the truth is I would miss him.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened to us all if Lorne had never come into my life, if I hadn't fallen for him, if Jack had loved me the way I wanted him to if Jack had wanted to keep me if things had been different between Jack and me. I suppose I would be happy, though in a different way than now.

If I didn't have Lorne a lot of things would be different.

It doesn't matter, anyway.

Time to look after Tommy one last time.

Things are working up to be more complicated than we anticipated. I may be later than I thought.

If anything goes wrong, remember I love you. I love you with all of me.

Hi, sweetheart--just a quick message. Our frozen soldier, Tommy, he's up and functioning. We'll be having breakfast in a few minutes: he's always got a big appetite when he first wakes up. Of course, if you'd been sleeping for a year you'd be hungry too. It'll be like how I told you: testing, mostly, and then Tosh will take him out, and then tonight he goes back into the cryogenics chamber.

Don't expect to see me until late tonight. I love you.

Lorne and I looked at three houses today.

*collapses*

I mean, our estate agent has found some beautiful houses for us in some great neighborhoods, but none of them are our house, yeah? we haven't found one yet whre I can see us making supper in the kitchen or inviting you all over for a party or where the kids can play in the garden.

(Nieces and nephews. I'm getting two nephews with this marriage. Whoo boy.)

I don't want to settle. We're going to be living in this house for a long time *knocks wood* and I want it to feel like ours from the moment we step inside. I have no idea how we find it, is all.
likesthecoat: (earthrise)
This makes me think of you.

(Anybody else who wants it can have it too. I'm too happy to be selfish.)
likesthecoat: (torchwood (text))
1. Name something you don't have but really want.
A house. But we're working on that. Knowledge of how to make our wedding perfect. That, I have no idea how to get.

2. Name something you have but don't want.
A burn on my thumb. (Just from the steamer. There's a bandage on it.)

3. 2 favorite material possessions.
My ring. My umbrella.

4. What are some relationship breakers for you?
Dishonesty.

5. What is the best part of your relationship with your partner(s)?
*smiles* All of it.

6. Describe what sadness is to you.
Lack of purpose.

7. Have you ever been in therapy?
Yeah, when I was a kid.

8. What is your favorite thing to do as a pick me up?
Be with Lorne.

9. Who made you laugh last?
Tosh.

10. What is the best article of bathroom stall graffiti you've ever read?
I dunno, I like Owen's example. I can't think of anything particularly clever that I've seen lately.

[Filtered to Lorne]

This is one part note-to-self as it is one part note-to-you. We'll need to do our house-viewing just on Saturday this week: we have an annual thing to take care of on Sunday.

Oh, I'll just tell you: we've got a frozen WWI soldier in the vaults and Sunday is the annual day we thaw him out and make sure he's still doing okay. It's a pretty good day, actually: he's a great bloke.

I can give you most of Friday if you feel deprived of my company on Sunday.

To help me keep things organized, I'm putting together a wedding blog. Feel free to come visit.

Ianto leaves the Hub mid-morning with errands to run. Most of them are for Torchwood--the Rift positively eats paperclips and marker pens, or the pterodactyl does--but there's also a personal thing he needs to find.

Luckily he knows exactly what he wants and where to find it. There's a shop whose owner knew his father, and once Ianto explains what he's looking for there's a velvet tray in front of him, filled with gleaming silver rings.

He skips over the plain ones: he wants something a bit more ornate. Lorne doesn't want a stone, either, so anything set with diamonds (or even a beautiful piece of amber) is rejected as well. He wants something like the black ring he's wearing, something with a deeper significance.

He finds it in the second tray, among the An Ri and claddaugh rings: a silver ring engraved with manuscript decorations, something masculine enough to look at home on Lorne's hand and beautiful enough to symbolize everything Ianto wants the ring to say.

The ring safely in his pocket, Ianto goes about his other errands with a noticeable bounce in his step.
likesthecoat: (i love your existence)
So.

Um.

Lorne and I were talking today and we've decided to get married.

Well, have a civil partnership. You know. But dammit, I'm going to call him my husband and I don't care what the law is, it'll be a marriage.

It'll be in October, we think. We haven't really decided on any other details yet.

And because this type of announcement isn't complete without it:

I love Evan Lorne so much and I get to spend the rest of my life with him!!!

Good god. I think I just asked Lorne to marry me.

I mean, I've been planning to for a while now, but . . . good god. Where's a paper bag when you need one?

If my life had a reoccurring theme, it would be that love is not enough.

I'm not going to lose Lorne the way I lost Lisa, but if he doesn't find some kind of purpose, some occupation, I think I'm going to lose him anyway.

You can't take an active man and expect him to be happy doing nothing.

I don't know what to do. I don't know if I can talk to anyone about it. I don't know how to make it better. No matter how much I love him, if he's not happy he'll have no reason to stay.
